COURSE PROCEDURES AND
PRACTICES
School Year 2006 -- 2007
Teacher: Mrs. Folsom Course:
English 4
Student grading:
Grading will be based on a
point system, and will include the
following areas:
Essays
Homework
Tests
Class participation
Book reviews
Research papers
(Second quarter grades
will include final exam)
Makeup:
Students will be given one day
for each day of excused absence from class. Otherwise, no late work will be accepted. It is the
student's responsibility to check with me for missing work after an absence.
Extra credit:
Students are expected to do the
regular assignments in order to earn grades. Occasionally, possibilities for extra credit occur, and
rarely, a student who has shown exceptional effort and has gone ñabove and beyondî
on an assignment, will receive extra points.
Basic work requirements:
Students will keep a daily
journal, write a book review or evaluation quarterly, write a research paper in
the spring, and write several essays each quarter. Short writing assignments will also be given, which will
include literature analysis, and college or career preparation. Any work turned in that is not school
appropriate (ex.: language in journals) will not receive credit. Active participation
in class discussions will also be a factor in grading. All work will only be accepted in pen
or word processed. All homework assignments will be due at the beginning of the period.
Office hours: Period 5, Room 130 (or by arrangement).
