Welcome to "Homework Helper" Class!
Teacher: Mrs. Beck

Welcome to Gilson Junior High School's Homework Helper classroom. This Jr. High elective is designed to assist students with homework needs, and to provide the extra time that students need to complete their assignments at school.

Our classroom will be a working environment. Students will be required to bring certain items to class each day, and they will be asked to use all their class time constructively. Success in this elective will require students to come with a positive working attitude and a willingness to use their time wisely.

Grading
Students have the opportunity to earn 10 points in class each day. The accumulation of these points will make up the quarter and semester grade for Homework Help Resourceer class. There are three areas where students will be able to accumulate points each day: being prepared, performance / behavior, and student planner.

I. Each day students will enter the room and show Mrs. Beck that they are prepared with the following items:

1. A book to read (1 point)
2. A writing utensil (1 point)
3. Student planner (1 point)
4. Homework (1 point)

II. Performance / Good Behavior in class will be expected each day. Students can earn up to 4 points daily in this area. Behavior will be scored as follows:

4 points - I entered the class quietly and went right to work. I did not disturb others and I was able to use my time effectively by either finishing my assigned work or by reading silently until the bell rang for the next class.

3 points - I entered the class and went to work, but was reminded by Mrs. Beck to stay on task. I did my work, but I did not work as hard as I am able, or I disturbed other students during the class period.

2 points - I entered the class and I had a difficult time getting to work. Mrs. Beck repeatedly reminded me to work, and I often distracted others from working. I could have been much more productive with my time.

1 point - Mrs. Beck is “blue in the face”. I am not following the rules of the classroom, and the students around me cannot concentrate on their assignments. I chose to waste my class time.

III. Organization of the Student Planner will be the final component of the daily grade. Each day students in this class will show Mrs. Beck their planner daily. Assignments or classroom activities for all subject areas must be recorded in the planner.
2 points

If a student is asked to leave the room, due to a severe discipline situation, he/she will loose all 10 points for that day.

Grades will be calculated according to the Valdez City Schools Grading Scale.
(100 - 90% = A, 89 - 80% = B, 79 - 70% = C...)
