Welcome to Hermon Hutchens Elementary School
We’re so glad that you have chosen to explore all the wonderful
information located here on our website. We are very proud to be a part of Valdez
City Schools and believe our district is a cut above all the rest of Alaskan
schools. Our talented teachers work hard to provide the best instruction possible
using “Best-Practices,” a sound, research-driven curriculum, and
technology. Our faculty and staff are committed to working together closely
with parents, to provide the very best education for all of our students. Educational
excellence is our hallmark.Roz Strang
HHES PrincipalHermon Hutchens Elementary School (HHES) students are offered
a safe, caring environment where they can learn at their own developmental level.
HHES is a nurturing environment that meets diverse student needs. It’s
an enjoyable place where the wonders of education generate life-long learners.
My own background includes 30 years of combined experience as an elementary
and secondary music teacher, being an elementary classroom teacher, and now
a principal. The goal of my educational experience is threefold: I have a strong
commitment to children; I’ve the desire to solve problems quickly and
efficiently; and I’ve set a standard of excellence for myself, my own
classes, and now our school.
Student learning is core to all decisions made in Hermon Hutchens Elementary.
Because we’re aware that it's advantageous to keep current on research,
new techniques and best practices, Hermon Hutchens does exactly that. Our students’
progress is also closely monitored on a regular basis through a variety of teacher,
district, state and federal assessments. Hermon Hutchens students score high
overall on district, state and federal assessments. So I am very proud of each
and every one of our students and their accomplishments. My pride also extends
to each of our teachers who work very hard on a consistent basis to provide
standards- based learning that is progressive, challenging and fosters life-long
learning. I’d like to challenge our community to create a shared responsibility
for the success of the students and of the school. By involving business partners,
parents, and other community members, we will carry out the vision that builds
greater ownership of our school. This website is one more venue to involve you
in that vision. Please enjoy exploring our site. Feel free to email the staff
or myself if you have any questions. If you’re interested in volunteering,
please drop by our Parent Resource Office, and we’ll provide you with
information on the opportunities and training provided within our school. We
hope to see you soon at Hermon Hutchens Elementary!
Sincerely,
Roz Strang, Principal
